Loved Through Trouble

Romans 8:35 asks a question that many people still ask today when they face something terrible, like a sudden disaster, their own failures, or prolonged suffering—Does God still love me? We get a nice, clear answer from this Bible passage:

Who shall separate us from the love of God? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
(Romans 8:35,37)

The question of "Will I be separated from God’s love?" is emphatically answered with a great big, ”No!” When believers (those who have placed their faith in Jesus and his sacrifice) face one of these super tough things, God says we are not separated from his love. Instead, it's quite the opposite. In those tough times we are actually more than conquerors!

And what could be more than a conqueror? A winning team only triumphs after the final score shows they have conquered their opponent, but we get to be sure of victory in the midst of the battle. That’s being more than a conqueror.

The verse declares our conquering comes through a particular avenue—through God who loves us. God’s love is stronger and far bigger than any trouble we could face. His love cannot be torn loose from us, no matter how grand the disaster. It’s love that neither angels nor demons could separate us from. It’s love that won’t be altered by time. It’s love that no earthly power could pull us from.

When we believe this truth by faith, it fills us with incredible hope because of the magnitude of God’s great love! We can rest secure, trusting that God’s love will last for us and is big enough to see us through anything we experience.

This Bible verse is tucked inside an incredible chunk of Scripture that I encourage you to read this week: Romans 8:28–39!

Despite any troubles we face, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us with a love that will not be separated from us. Paul was convinced, and he sought to convince the believers he wrote to. Will you be convinced?
